Cougar

Boy, I've been so busy this week I never got around to posting the rest of the photos from the museum. Well, here we go.

This is Bucket, he is quite the friendly fellow. You can read his story here.
This is a very lucky duck. She survived being shot by a duck hunter and being in a fridge for two days before the hunter's wife opened the fridge door and the duck looked up at her. She now happily lives at the museum with another duck and a bunch of screech owls.
The bobcats were particularly playful, they play just like our three house cats. We spent a good long time watching them pounce on each other and wrestle.
Oh my goodness, look at that face
The movement of bobcat tails is amazing, much more movement than a domestic cat. I think I love bobcats so much because I have quite the fondness for manx cats, I always try to have at least one in my life.
Florida panther paws
The newest additions to the museum family are the Texas cougar cub sisters. The museum raised the money to get them and they are quite the stars. They still have a touch of their baby spots but they look so grown up now from when they first arrived December.

A video posted by RC 🐇 (@forceofrabbit) on

I got a quick video of them playing. When the one walks away at the end it is because a pair of girls in a canoe stopped in the swap to see them.

Cupcake Princess

For the MLK holiday Hubby and I took a trip to the Tallahassee Museum. Shout out to our aunt for buying us a year pass, thank you so much! We arrived around 10:30 and the lot was already very full although when we got in it wasn't as crowded as it seemed since it was lots of parents with small children that were happier playing on the playground than walking the trails.
The swamp is so picturesque, I could fill my memory card with shots of the Cyprus trees.
Hubby and I had a rather special animal sighting, a skunk! Never in my adult life have I seen it and even my friend that works at the museum has never seen it. Hubby and I watched it eat for about 15-20 minutes before it circled the feeder then bounded off into the palmettos.

The sky was bright and blue with no clouds but it was rather chilly so after we walked the loop to see the animals we stopped off for a coffee at the cafe. We drank it outside in the sunshine and ate the granola bars I brought with us. After our snack stop we visited the animals at the 1800s farm.
This leucistic squirrel was having breakfast in the goose feeder when we walked by.
This one was hanging out by the smoke house, I almost didn't notice him because I was watching another one at the farm building.
After the farm we walked to Bellevue, the plantation home of Catherine Murat (a princess by marriage).
We had the house to ourselves so we were able to explore without interruptions. The last few times we visited we didn't get over to the house so it was Hubby's first time walking through.
The chilly weather called for a bulky sweater and thick tights. I got this adorable skirt at ModCloth during the big sale for $16 with shipping, I couldn't even make one for that price. While the skirt has holiday themed cupcakes I plan on wearing it all year because cupcakes and peppermints are two of my favorite things. It's hard to see but the cupcake print is in shades of pink and mint green.

Wiggle In My Walk

Last month for my birthday a pair of my very bestest friends gave me and Hubby tickets to an amazing 5 course beer pairing dinner. We enjoyed ourselves so much we bought tickets to the dinner this month. The meal this month was just as delicious or maybe even more so thanks to the amazing desert course, a chocolate New York cheesecake topped with ganache made with the paired beer, a Russian imperial stout called Siberian Night. If you are looking for a special dinner night check out The Grain by Fermentation Lounge and follow their Facebook page for events and specials, they do these special pairing dinners once a month. (But totally drop in for lunch sometime too)
I wanted to dress up so I wore my brand new dress I picked up from the super sale at ModCloth. I took a gamble on this dress since it was on final sale but it turned out to be perfect. I was amazed it not only fit my hips but didn't gap at my waist, it almost was tailor made for me. The only thing I needed to do was remove the belt loops, as they were much to low, and I'll need to take up the straps just slightly.

The stunning brooch was a birthday gift from a friend.
I didn't get a good shot of my eyes closed to show off the shadow but I was wearing Urban Decay Dope and Hikari's Creme Metallic Pigment Shadow in Mink. I got the Hikari in my first bag since signing back up with Ipsy. If you are interested in trying out Birchbox or Ipsy click on the links on the sidebar of this page. My lips are NYX Matte lipstick in Indie Flick which is one of my all time favorite lip colors. My lashes are old and I don't remember the brand but they have have prismatic sparkles in them.
The big hair was for a surprise party I was attending after the dinner with a 70s theme. After the dinner we stopped at the house so I could change into one of my favorite vintage gowns, although I could barely move after the feast and spent the whole party lounging in a comfy couch trying not to fall asleep.

New Year New Problems

Oh wow, what a day I had yesterday. I walked just over 4 miles at a nice quick pace, put on great makeup, dressed up in the adorable dress I just finished this week (all while planning a post on how excited I was for 2016), got in my car and headed to railroad square to take bright and happy outfit photos by the brightly colored warehouses. About 4 blocks down the road without warning my oil pressure light and alarm come on in my car, now I'm not some ditsy chick that drives with that not knowing what it means, I was on a busy road and not in the best area of town but I knew I was only about 2 blocks from an auto parts store. I drove it to the store praying the whole way that my engine wouldn't blow. I got to the store and bought oil but when I went to put it in my car (remember all dolled up here in my new dress) the hood latch refused to release. I sat on the hood and called Hubby who was only about a mile away. He came and got the hood open and poured in some oil, he had me turn on the engine to check the level but when I did almost all the oil we had just poured in came shooting out like a geyser. The alarm didn't sound again but he agreed to follow me home because we knew it was a major problem and shouldn't be driven. About a block from home the alarm sounded again but I was able to coast it around the corner and into our driveway. Hubby took me to lunch at the Indian place while I wallowed in doubts and fears of repair costs. My car will be hitting the 20 year mark from the date of purchase on leap day this year and while she is a good reliable vehicle she has a few small things that need fixing so if the repair bill was going to be more than $800 it wouldn't be worth fixing and we would be looking for a newer vehicle for me. I spent the whole afternoon worrying of the outcome since we are young and really can't afford buying even a used car. Heck, I only have this one because she was given to me, I still would be car-less if Grandma hadn't given her to me.

When Hubby got home he put my car up on the ramps and poked around trying to figure out where the oil was leaking from. We tracked it down to the oil cooler, luckily it was a cheap part with work able to be done without taking her to a shop. Hubby picked up the parts and tools needed and if it doesn't rain too much this weekend he'll try to fix it for me. Cross your fingers for us that this is the right fix and the engine didn't suffer any damage driving her back the 4 blocks or so to our house.
I had to take outfit photos at the house after lunch and by that time the lighting sucked. But since this is my new favorite dress I'll be wearing it often on the blog.
Isn't this print adorable? It is Day of the Dead kitties! I had fallen in love with print a month or so ago but Fabric.com was out of stock so when I saw it was back in I immediately ordered 3 yards.

Oh, look at this brooch! It is a jelly belly fish tank with a kitty. It was a Christmas gift from a dear friend.

Mermaid Monday

Last year's New Years post was honest and I can say at the start of 2016 I am in a much better place than at the start of 2015, my mind and body are much healthier. I will do a more in depth post soon with the goals of 2016 and how much I was able to check off my list from 2015. One of my goals last year was to make one of my dream costumes and I made one but hadn't gotten good pictures till now.
I have always been obsessed with mermaids, Disney's The Little Mermaid came out when I was 4 which might have been part of it. I dreamed of a mermaid costume since I was a child but my mother never thought it was a safe costume so she never made me one.

One day last year JoAnn's had a super sale on fabric so I dragged Hubby down to the store and we picked out this lovely aqua prismatic fabric. I was leaning towards the purple or green first but this color just spoke to us.
This summer I practiced swimming in my tail, I'm getting better but still not very confident yet. I recently added real flippers into it for better stability and propulsion but since I never had swum with fins so  it is a learning curve.
For my make-up I used NYX baked shadow in Blue Dream applied wet. The pigment is amazing and very long lasting, I even had a hard time getting it all off after my shower, but that is what I needed for this shoot. I may have to invest in a few more colors, especially if I build up the courage to take the belly dance lessons I want to this year.

Oh, my nails are OPI Liquid Sand in Tiffany Case.

Did I mention it was in the low 50s and very windy when we were shooting these? I nearly froze my tail off. My liner and strapless bra didn't want to stay in place either. Some of the photos that didn't make it here are cute outtakes of me smiling silly and or pulling random things up or down.

A funny story from when we were setting up to shoot-

Hubby and I were the only ones on the beach, I was already in my wig and liner but had my sarong over the liner for modesty (it is skin color). I was just about to shed the sarong and shimmy into my tail when a gentlemen walked down the boardwalk. Upon seeing us he must have thought we were doing some other kind of shoot and excused himself with "I just came over to see a sandbar, oh look, there's one" and walked off.

We didn't see another person till we had finished up and were walking to the car to get my change of clothes.

I had packed a picnic lunch but since it was so chilly and windy we ate it in the car rather than the picnic area. We also were scarfing down boiled peanuts since we passed one of our favorite roadside stands, there is nothing like fresh, hot, Cajun spiced peanuts. I can't believe I didn't get the taste for them till last year.
Wishing you a very happy 2016. Live your dreams and be happy.
