Thursday 9/24/15

Ah, first time back eating lunch out with Hubby and the guys. I haven't gotten out of the house much since I was down with the ick. Last week I still was weak and sore so my life is only really getting going again this week. I have been able to do several 3 mile days again and as soon as it cools off a little I hope to get back up to 5 mile days. When I headed out for a walk today it started sprinkling on me, luckily the clouds thinned and the sun was out by the time I got back home.

I'm excited about hanging out with my mom tomorrow, we haven't gotten to do anything while I was sick. I kind of want to explore our favorite vintage/junkshop, they have been posting some cool items they have gotten in recently. I savor my "Mommy Time", she truly is my best friend.

This weekend should be pretty tame, no local sports to attend so hopefully we can get the rest of the work done on the house that we were unable to while sick. My cleaning and laundry is way behind and Hubby has been repainting the eaves on the house. This summer was so hot and rainy we hadn't done much maintenance on the house or yard. We had lots of climbing ivy crawl up the house and now that we removed it the house could use a fresh coat of paint. Hubby and I are tentatively thinking of painting it purple, I love the yellow but...PURPLE!
Since it is Fall and Halloween is fast approaching I've been pulling out more of my spooky prints. While I have no problem wearing spiderwebs and witches all year some people look at it as rather odd.
This witch print skirt is one of my favorite things in my wardrobe, I should have paired it with my BAIT heels sooner, I love them with it.
I tried tucking a loose sweater into an elastic banded skirt so it got a little bulky, I should have skipped the belt but I loved the pop of red to tie everything together.

Outfit details:

Sweater: thrifted
Ghost brooch: vintage, found in box of  jewelry scraps
Belt: eBay
Skirt: Made by me
Shoes: BAIT, bought scondhand

I don't think this sweater has ever appeared on the blog. It is one of my favorite tops and I wear it often, usually with jeans though. It is really one piece with the sleeves and collar sewn on as accents which is super handy.

Yesterday marked the first day of Autumn. Florida didn't quite get the memo and still felt like summer. I wasn't going to let the warm weather stop me from wearing something Autumnal.
I met Hubby on campus for a volleyball game and we snapped this pics around the corner from his building. I had thought about wearing my photo print leaf print skirt instead of this dress but the opposing team's colors were orange and green so I wanted to steer clear of wearing lots of orange.
This is my favorite shot from the other day

Talk Like a Pirate Day

Saturday was International Talk Like a Pirate Day. We love to celebrate in grand style by dressing up in full pirate garb, getting our free dozen donuts each at Krispy Kreme, and gowning grog at a local watering hole.
I'm still piecing together a pirate costume after my major weight loss a few years back.  Someday I'll have the money to make really nice one but till then I'll skirt by with what I have.

I lucked out with this corset vest, I found it at my favorite Vintage/everything shop for something like $15 or so. It is hand made from a nice brocade and fits me like a glove, and face it, anytime I don't have to sew brocade I'm thrilled. My mini pirate hat is from Etsy and my treasure chest purse is just a decorator box from Hobby Lobby at I got when a friend moved. I normally wear one of my off shoulder Renaissance chemises but I got this shirt from a friend clearing out her cosplay costumes and it just screamed pirate to me. I wore my favorite Aerosole heels and tights from Sock Dreams.

It felt fantastic just to relax, put back a few beverages, and hang out with good friends.

I am once again part of the world of the living, well, mostly. Monday was the first day I really started feeling like vertical was a good idea. I didn't quite feel up to walking so I pulled the unwanted plants in the beds around the house. I pulled all the mexican petunias, almost all the hosta, and thinned my gigantic aloe plants. I currently look like I lost a fight with a pack of kittens, aloes can pack a punch. Hubby and I hadn't pulled aloe babies for over a year or more so when I went in to thin I must have pulled up about 50 ranging from the teeny tiny to some whoppers that were nearly 2 feet across. I posted on Facebook about the babies and some of my gardening friends came over to adopt aloes. I still have a good number left over that I'll add to the property line and the natural fence we are growing.
The next morning when I rolled out of bed I could barely move, I think I overdid it. Even today I still am in a lot of pain, I had to take a muscle relaxer it was so bad. I've started walking again, I can only currently do two miles. My mind is willing but my body is still weak and healing after being in bed sick.
I'm really glad to be on my feet again because this is a super busy week. Last night we met up with some friends and my god father to go see the Doctor Who 3D showing of Dark Water/Death in Heaven. The 3D was lame, but I expected that, but the reason I wanted to see it on the big screen was Missy. I really want to make a Missy costume and I wanted to see the details as big as possible.
I wore my favorite Doctor Who shirt and the new DW print skirt I made. I can really notice the loss of the few pounds I have been working on, I already have to take up the waist on the skirt. I did expect having to take it up though because I really wanted the DW print the correct way along the band which lead to some stretching due to it being with the grain instead of against it. No biggie though, just a little hand work moving the bottom of the fasteners over.
Lol, I'm still washed out from being sick so my powder is too dark.
Outfit Details:

Necklace- Fool Moon Treasures
Shirt- Old, Etsy
Skirt- Made by me, fabric
Shoes- Poetic Licence, second hand from eBay
The new season starts this week, I'm so excited!

This week has been a doozy. I have had a sinus crap that put me on the couch all week. I woke up Sunday morning with a tickle in my throat and by Sunday evening all I wanted to do was curl up in a ball. Monday-Thursday the only energy I could muster was right around dinner time and just enough to cook. I had to skip walking all week. Being on the couch hasn't been all bad, I've been enjoying a Buffy the Vampire Slayer marathon while I've been down. Friday brought a little hope, I was feeling a lot better and I got to hang out with my mom for part of the afternoon. She brought me Chinese take out for lunch, Chinese has always been my comfort food. She even brought me an extra quart of egg drop soup which I am happily slurping down for lunch today.

Friday evening was the home opener for volleyball season. I started a dress to wear for it last week but with my head being so fuzzy I barely finished it in time. The zipper ended up going in a little wonky so I think once I am better I'll take it out and redo it as well as taking up an inch or two in the waist since it turned out a little large.

Our girls won the game 3-0 but by the time I got home I was running a temp of 100.1. I took a cool shower and ate a pineapple popcicle so by the time I went to bed the fever had broken. I'm taking it easy today but I still plan on going to the game tonight to cheer (well, not out loud) the girls on.

I didn't have time to wet set my hair so I hit it with my curling iron. I kind of fried my ends since I am so out of practice with it. I think it has been a year since I curled with heat.
Outfit details:

Dress- made by me
Butterick 5982 with puff sleeves from a McCall's costume pattern
Belt- eBay
Shoes- Melissa (secondhand)
It felt great to put on make-up, it made me feel so much more human.
Both Hubby and I are feeling like zombies so I am surprised any of these photos even made it to the blog.
Here's hoping I feel better soon, I have lots to do this month.

Splish Splash

Another boring week around here. Lots of my friends are prepping for Dragon Con, someday I'll get to go. I enjoyed shopping with a couple of friends over the weekend, we hit a bunch of thrift shops and found quite a few things they needed for their costumes (and I scored quite a few nice deals too).

WWE came through for a live show on Sunday. Yes, wrestling is my guilty pleasure. For a split roster (half was in Daytona) it was a really good show. Last time I attended a non televised show it was a big let down so this was a very nice surprise. We only bought cheap tickets (since we weren't expecting much) but the ones we got were even better than the expensive ones we shelled out for last time. We were up only one level above the floor with a great view. I kind of feel bad for the girl next to me, I'm sure she lost her voice with the way she screamed straining her vocal cords the whole show, my ears are still ringing a bit.

Good news, I lost the 8 pounds I was trying to. My athletic clothes are feeling a little bit looser on the bottom, little steps. I celebrated by getting a mint chocolate chip cupcake at my favorite cupcake shop to celebrate. It seemed fitting since when I was on my big (90ish pound) loss I would allow one splurge a week and it was always a Lucy and Leo's cupcake. Now that I lost the 8 I may press a little more and go for 5 more, that is the weight I feel the best at. When it cools down and the humidity drops I want to push up to 5 miles a day. I enjoy not coming home looking like a jumped in a pool from only a 2-3 mile walk in the morning.
While it's still hot I'm trying to wear this dress as much as possible.
This mermaid bag was one of my thrift finds Saturday, it was brand new and only $4! A friend bought me a water bottle with the same design recently so I knew I had to have it.
I wore my Chicken of the Sea mermaid brooch and earring set today. It's still hard to believe that when packing the costume jewelry at Grandma's house someone almost threw this set out. I think it is just dandy.
Outfit details:

Sunnies- Quarter Moon
Dress- Made by me, vintage reproduction pattern
Belt- eBay
Mermaid brooch/earrings- Vintage
Shoes- Clarks, thrifted
I'm sewing a new dress to debut soon, I plan on wearing it to the home opener for volleyball season. I was planning on finishing it up today but I'm feeling a little lazy so I may just play some Eternal Darkness.
