Tickled Pink

Yesterday was national Pink Day but I didn't get out of the house yesterday other than for my walk so I observed it today. Frankly I needed to burn off some energy, my sister and niece are arriving in town today (from Hawaii) and I haven't seen them in just over a year. Hubby and I are going to visit after he gets off work. I can't wait to spoil both of them with the stuff I made them, dresses and skirts for my niece and crocheted grocery bags for my sister. Even typing this I'm having a hard time sitting still.

Last time I wore this dress it was way too big, my mom took it up for me. Now it fits perfectly.
As much as I adore pink I have very little of it in my closet. If you asked me my favorite color I most likely would respond with yellow or purple but pink has always been my truly favorite color. When I was little I wouldn't wear anything that didn't have some shade of pink in it.
Today's Outfit:

Lips: MAC, viva glam Miley
Sunnies: Amazon
Dress: Made by me, Butterick 6049
Shoes: Old, childen's department

I have a busy weekend coming up, I have a wedding to attend, a friend's costume birthday party, and lots of family time scheduled.

Until next time

Wowies, it has been 97-99 degrees all week and over 100 with the heat indices. I still have walked everyday this week but I have to wear a bandanna to keep the sweat at bay. One day this week I forgot a bandanna and was miserable, I was blinded by sweat.
For photos today I picked one of my favorite churches downtown with nice tree cover. I am finding downtown is a great place for weekday outfit shoots since it is so hot not many people are around. It costs around 20 cents for parking and I never have a hard time finding spots.
Today I decided in spite of the heat I was going to look good. I did a simple make-up look and wore my Betsey Johnson skull earrings. If this isn't the weather for halter dresses, I don't know what is.  While pink is the boldest color in this dress the dark shades are really red and not a dark pink, which made a good pairing with my newly red hair.
 Make-up of the day:

Brows: It Cosmetics Brow Power (from this month's Ipsy bag)
Eyeliner: Elf cream liner
Shadows: Pacifica and Coastal Scents
Blush- Maybelline, pair o' plums
Lips: Kat Von D everlasting liquid lipstick in Outlaw
Fingernails: Formula X in Power Source (Ipsy)
Toenails: Nina Ultra Pro in Punki Pink
Hair color: Ion Brights in Red
Outfit of the day:

Flower- eBay
Earrings: Betsey Johnson, secondhand
Dress: Hell Bunny, secondhand
(lace added by me)
Purse: Betsey Johnson, birthday gift
Espadrille Wedges: Sam and Libby, old

I pulled out my favorite white summer wedges to wear this year but sadly the elastic died and it costs just as much to repair them as to buy a new pair. I'll be on the hunt for another cute pair peep-toe wedges for sure. Maybe I'll find a black pair, I think I would get lots of wear out of them.

Healing Waters

When the hot gets going Floridians head to water. With temps in the high 90s this weekend was perfect for splashing in a cool river. Hubby and I packed up the canoe and took a trip to the Wacissa. I grew up just down the road from the Wacissa River and I remember often going to cool off in the summer (I grew up without AC) or bathing in it when we lost power for days on end. I had a love/hate relationship with water as a child. I enjoyed swimming and was quite good at it but always hated what could be waiting in the water. I am very scared of snakes and the area around the river has many cottonmouths (water moccasins), a venomous water loving pit viper, luckily we didn't see a single one this trip.

The recreation area at the put in has been cleaning up and revamped since I was a child, it is nice seeing the area in loved condition. We found a parking spot close to the boat ramp but since there were lots of small motor boats putting in we dropped the canoe into the shallows beside the ramp, we jumped into the wonderfully cool water then climbed in the canoe.
The Wacissa has crystal clear water due to the amount of springs feeding it

I am grateful my parents are letting us keep the canoe at our house, we can take her out when ever we want rather than having to drive out to the farm to pick her up. This canoe has been with my family since the 70s and my dad even bought it used back then. She is large and heavy (and completely ugly) but she is a trooper and has never let us down. She had been in waters from Florida to Canada and everywhere between while on our camp all summer long family trips. I guess she used to be light blue but the previous owners must have hunted so they painted her an ugly shade of OD, some of the blue is starting to show again. I told my dad I might repaint her and he said okay as long as I didn't paint her pink, LOL.
Apart from being hot it was a perfect day to paddle.
We had several paddle splashing fights to cool off.
How do you like my red highlights? It feels great to have red again.
Not many of my pictures came out but this one of a submerged log is pretty cool.
Kayakers are always surprised to see a canoe using a kayak paddle. It works really well in our canoe since it is so large and slow to turn. My dad always used it when he went out alone for better maneuverability.
We paddled about a mile down the river to get to Big Blue, a spring with amazing bright blue water. The spring was packed with people, lots of motor boats were anchored at the entrance and the kayaks and canoes like us stuck to the edges. The spring is popular to swim in, one motor boat made me really mad because when they came into the spring they kept their motor on even with snorkelers in the water. Next time we go I think I'll take my mermaid tail and swim. Hubby just found his old snorkeling fins so I may mod my tail with them in it to get better propulsion in the water.
I know these are blurry but the color of the water is true to life, isn't it amazing?
The bird life was incredible. We saw many types of herons, egrets, and even a family of wood ducks. I was enjoying the experience more than trying to take photos, next time maybe I'll get more pictures.

Cyprus are so majestic
Neon pink nails make any day more fun
After lounging at Big Blue for a while we paddled back in, we planned to dock and climb out but there was a sunbather on the boat dock that didn't seem like she was going to move and we had to dodge a few boats putting in that didn't look before they tried to tie up and swing around. We waited a little then I just jumped out and pulled the canoe up to the ramp. The water was deeper than I remembered at the ramp so I ended up in boob deep water, least it was a good way to cool off.
A tree at the ramp filled with fishing floats
I ended up looking like a drown rat for my outfit pics, oh well. I was ecstatic when I found this button up at Goodwill. Not only was it lightweight, it buttoned over my boobs and hips, has long enough arms, adorable ruffles, it is purple gingham! It is the perfect summer outdoors shirt, it will be great for hiking too.
The amazing sunnies are from one of my favorite local shops, Quarter Moon Imports

I had been in lots of pain this week so getting out in the open air and stretching some muscles did me lots of good. I'm still a little sore but the rain should hold off this week so I can get in some good exercise to hold the pain at bay.

Webs and Rainbows

It has been rainy this week. I went to the beach with a friend on Tuesday but we had to limit our water time because of the lightning. It would be a few minutes in and a few out. I tried out a nifty waterproof bag for my older point and shoot camera and I was very glad to have it with all the rain.

Today the rain let up just enough for me to grab some pictures before lunch.

I wore my Folter spiderweb skirt that I got a while back on a ModCloth sale. They were out of my normal size so I ordered up a size, which turned out to be about two sizes too big. I had my mom add some tucks at the back to make it fit, alas it is still too big. I need to find a better solution, maybe I'll add a drawstring or some elastic. I should have worn a belt today but things are always clearer in hindsight.
Today's Outfit of the Day:

Wig- Amphigory
Real spiderweb necklace- gift
Blouse- thrifted
Skirt- ModCloth
Tights- gift, similar
Shoes- Payless
Bat Purse- $1 sale at The Other Side

I got the lipstick in a gift set from Sephora since I wanted to try Kat Von D's  liquid lipstick and a nude lipstick is always handy.

I got some nail art tools from Sephora too so I have been practicing.

Umbrellas are a pretty important thing to have in Florida since you never know when it will start raining. I have two or three just so I have one when I need it. This one is my new car umbrella, I found it at Salvation Army for $1! Can you believe it? I had always wanted a rainbow umbrella.

This weekend is supposed to clear up and be pretty, it will be nice to see the sun again.

Glimpses of Silver Lake

This weekend Hubby and I took advantage of the lovely weather to gets some fresh shots of one of my popular crochet patterns, the Simple Summer Dress Recipe. It is a quick and easy crochet pattern that requires little to no counting to produce a flirty cover up. Going to the beach was a little far just to grab some pictures so we went to Silver Lake. Silver Lake is one of those hidden gems that even though I have grown up in this area I had never been to. The lake is nestled in a national forest and is only $3 a car to get to. There are plenty of picnic tables, pavilions, a nice bathhouse, lovely swimming area, and only non motorized boats are allowed on the lake.

We enjoyed the lovely weather by having a picnic and swimming a little. There were lots of curious little fish that were very friendly. Hubby and I had fun sitting in the shallows and letting the fish swim around us.

I enjoyed the lake so much I'm going to try to get a lake day get-together with some friends.
