Inspired

Lately I have been super inspired. I have hardly left my sewing room this past week and when I do emerge I have been knitting and crocheting up a storm. I only took a break today on the two dresses I'm making because I didn't have zippers for them. I may pop in the sewing room later to finish up the skirt on one of them. I also have been able to get in some Resident Evil 4, let's not even go into how many times I have played that game.

Early this week the temps were in the low 90s which really felt like fall after the previous week's temps. Today the humidity was back up to 75% and it was an expected high of 95, ugg. I am so over summer.
I really wanted to wear my yellow shoes today and I figured I hadn't worn my Folter dress recently so why not pair them up? I really love this dress but if I order from Folter again I will go up a size because there is absolutely no room for my chest in it. I have so much fun picking out accessories to go with this amazing pop art print. I still need to try it out with pink, blue, and orange. I normally just accent it with yellow, red, or black.

I took photos at the Cottages at Lake Ella. The adorable little cottages were once part of a motor hotel but now are home to unique Tallahassee businesses.
I wish I could have stopped in for some lovely homemade ice cream but I was on my way to lunch.
So you can tell I'm in love with food prints. I would love to make a few cute food dresses, here are my picks of the week. I wish I could go on a shopping spree at Fabric.com. I bet I could rack up about $5000 in a few minutes.

I really want to get the popcorn print to make a dress to wear to a friend's wedding. If you knew the couple you would understand.

While I'm not a big fan of cotton candy this print is so pink and sweet.

Yes, there is a baked potato print. Not sure I could bring myself to make something from it but it makes me happy since baked potatoes may be my favorite food.

PIZZA!

How adorable is the muffin tin print? I may have to get some to make an apron out of.

I have been drooling over the collection with the diner food for I don't know how long. I think I have all the prints from it on my wishlist *fingers crosses*

Garnet and Gold

Here I am reading my blog roll and procrastinating when I should have been done with this post an hour or so ago.

This weekend was the Garnet and Gold game for FSU's woman's volleyball. It is the warm up game to show off the new players and how hard everyone has trained. And I know what you are thinking, "you like sports?" Truth is I love many sports and love going to sporting events. I will watch hours of college football and go to every game I can, I love MMA (mixed martial arts), I also am guilty of loving WWE and professional wrestling, I play disc golf when it isn't 100 degrees, and most of all I love volleyball. Anyway, back to the game.

Setting the ball for a kill
The gold team started strong and took the first two sets. After half time garnet came back strong and won the next two making the game go into a fifth and tie breaking set. It was close but in the end garnet won over gold 15 to 11.
It was a great start to the season and I can't wait for the home opener next week against our biggest rival the Gators.

I stuck to a simple sports day outfit: t-shirt and jeans. I jazzed it up with fringed bag and sandals.
I look so short next to the net, no wonder so many volleyball players are over 6' (way over).

Saturday also started the new season of Doctor Who. I was excited to see the new Doctor but I won't tell you any spoilers in case you are planning on seeing it in the theater tonight.

I mostly crochet nowadays but once upon a time I only knitted. This was one of my first knitting projects in a long time and I am tickled with how well they came out. These lovely cuffs will be part of my steampunk white rabbit costume I am making for a steampunk wonderland party I am attending in October.

The pattern is clear and creates great results every time. It only uses easy basic stitches and the tattered lace look is created by using several sizes of large needles. I happened to have all the needle sizes I needed but even if you need to go out and get a few sizes this pattern is worth it for the great results. I'm almost finished with my second pair and I'll post photos as soon as all the ends are woven in and the buttons are sewn on (it's a rainbow pair).

Southern Heat

It stopped raining but now we are under a heat advisory. Today is hovering around 108 degrees (with the heat index) . I took the opportunity and slept in, I keep saying I'll walk in the evening if I sleep in but I doubt it will even get below 85 degrees by midnight, urgh. This summer has just been a wash- not much done, not much exercise, and so on.

I stopped by the chain of parks on my way home from lunch today. The parks are shaded by monstrous live oaks and are cool even in a heat wave. The Knott House is one of Tallahassee's lovely historic houses and is open to the public as a museum (although it is closed in August). I remember taking the tour several times when I was a child. I need to go back as an adult.
I was excited to break out this skirt again, I bought it with warm weather in mind but the last time I wore it it was cold. It is just the right length, fits well at the natural waist, and has just enough movement without having to worry about the wind picking it up and blowing it over my head.

As Autumn approaches I will try to take you on a virtual tour of Tallahassee's lovely historic district. Tallahassee has such an amazing history I love sharing it.

The porch bunnies are currently residing in my sewing room because the heat. I can't sew while they are in there, oh well. The pets always come first.

Cupcake Cutie

This morning I actually got up on time and took a nice long morning walk. Yesterday I wasn't as good, I woke up at noon but I did make a dress. I've had this fabric sitting in the cabinet since I got my sewing machine. I love cupcakes and cupcake prints so it was a must have. Unlike many cupcake prints this one seemed more grown up, if a cupcake print dress can be grownup. Let me explain, the art is clear and realistic instead of being cartoon-y and childish.
I worked extra hard on this one to have it fit better at the top, nothing worse than a strapless dress that doesn't fit on top. There is nothing wrong with the pattern, it is just designed for a person with a wider back and smaller boobage.

While the strapless is great for this weather I really am looking forward to wearing it this fall with a cardigan.
What better excuse is there to get cupcakes than when taking photos of your new cupcake dress?
I was good and only got two, one for me and one for Hubby. The one with a cherry is a pineapple right side up cake and the other is chocolate peanut peanut butter topped with Reese's Pieces. Yum!
My go to cupcakery is Lucy and Leo's. You may have seen them on Cupcake Wars, while they didn't win they are #1 in my heart. When I was loosing weight I would stop by once a week to get a chocolate peanut butter, key lime pound cake, or pumpkin cupcake (depending on the season), it was my one weekly treat.
I had really good timing for these pics, just as I pulled into the house the rain clouds thickened and the thunder started rumbling. I had just enough time to round up the kitties from their morning romp in the yard before it started pouring. It looks like it might rain the rest of the afternoon but that is perfect for Netflix, coffee, and crochet (and a cupcake!).

Foxy

Monday my hubby had his wisdom teeth taken out. Today was his first day back at work, I miss him. I enjoyed getting to take care of him and I always love his company. It gets kind of lonely around the house during the day most of the time.
I was so excited to get out and finally get some pictures of this dress. I can't believe how well it turned out after giving me so many problems when I was making it. I swear I put it in time out three times. This was my first time making this dress in this size and I did loose the pattern sheet (directions) so that may have been part of it but it just seemed like the dress was cursed. I still see the mistakes and problems but when I put it on today the cuteness overpowered them in my mind.
I adore this autumnal fox print, my hubby was sweet and got it for me even after our cars needed work. He knew how much I adored it and it happened to be on sale when we got it. I did have to get the accent fabric but I found it for dead cheap at Hobby Lobby.
 My cherry necklace matches perfectly

Today was the first day it hasn't stormed this week, although it looks like it may later today. Unfortunately yesterday our computer got fried in one of the lightning storms. Tonight Hubby is going to take apart the computer to see what the problem is. Cross your fingers for us that it is just the power supply and not the motherboard. I'm working from the old laptop today but it just isn't the same as a nice desktop.

I'm including this outtake from today because it make me smile.

Friday Favorites

I don't normally do a Friday Favorites post but this look was way too cute not to share.

How amazing is this border print? It is huge too, this swatch is 22 inches wide.
I must make a dress or skirt from it. I'm thinking I would need 3-4 yards do do it justice.
check out the reviews to see a dress made from this fabric

Once the dress is made I would have to pair it with this backpack from ModCloth.

A cute dress calls for cute shoes

Have a great weekend!

Rainy Day Picnic

Today I was pretty motivated. I walked, got my newest dress together all but the zipper (I had put the dress in time out for several days because I didn't like the way it was going together), and I finished the granny square blanket I have been working on (just the fringe left). Since I was so good I treated myself to an ice coffee and a donut. I had planned to have a nice little picnic but as soon as happy hour rolled around it started raining. The little park I like to play at has baseball and softball fields so I camped out and had my picnic in a dugout.
I've been wanting to show off my donut hat for a while now, I finally get to.
A friend pinned this Donut hat a few months back and I knew I had to make one. I used a hat I already had but it was so bumpy it was hard to paint, I had to outline everything to get it to show up. When it was wet a cat jumped on the hat, pink paint got everywhere (see the paw print on the straw?). I need to get some tan paint to paint the top and the edges to even out the look. This time I will lock it in the back room while it dries.
Strawberry glazed donuts with sprinkles are probably my favorite type of donut but today they were all out :( I had to settle for no sprinkles.

Back to putting on fringe

Pretty Poppy

I've still been having lingering bouts of  depression related to the repair bills on the cars so I've made it a point to get dressed up and get out of the house to take my mind off of it. Today I met my hubby and some friends for lunch at one of our favorite lunch spots. I like taking pictures there, the mustard color always brightens up photos.
I bought this dress early in spring from a Goodwill. It was just too pretty to leave there. The color is between a peach and a coral in person and is covered with the most glorious poppies in shades of pink, grey, and mahogany. I cut off the straps today because they just weren't flattering with my size chest, I really don't need straps to hold it up anyway. The one downside of this maxi is that I have to iron it because it is 100% cotton and I don't have a full size ironing board. It is laughable watching me trying to iron a full length dress (with a lining and pockets) on a little tabletop ironing board. I love maxi dresses and I wish I had more. I had lots of them before I lost weight.

I picked up these Minnetonka sandals at the new Salvation Army thrift shop, clothes and shoes are 50% off on Fridays so I got them for $3! I love Minnetonka shoes and they are the only leather shoes I will buy brand new (I normally only buy vegan shoes). I am going to wear theses all summer and fall to football and Volleyball games. Proud Seminole girl here, fringe is a popular accessory on campus.

The shell necklace is from Hawaii.

I know these aren't poppies but I took these pictures a few weeks ago and just found them on my little camera so I wanted to share.  Aren't they pretty?
