Rust in Peace

Hubby and I finally got our beach day. We have been trying to get out to the beach together for a while now, especially since we were unable to go camping at the beach earlier this month due to too much work and too many engagements. We decided to try out Bald Point State Park. The road to the beach passes one of my favorite places, a cemetery of beautiful mid-century (and older) cars. It is not a junk yard, it is a quiet plot under an oak tree. The cars sit in a semi-circle that faces the road, their headlamps watch the traffic. I wonder if they  secretly wish they could be driving along with the passing cars. I had hubby pull over so we could get some photos. (In pull over I mean- pass it, go back, pass it again, turn around in a driveway then pull in) More about the beach next post, for now sit back and enjoy these lovely rusting masses.

Into the Woods

Well I didn't make the firework print dress but I did finally get a skirt together from the fabric I bought from fabric.com about a month and a half ago.
Isn't this print adorable? It is printed to look like patchwork and has squirrels, hedgehogs, and mushrooms. The print has so many pretty colors it will be a fun piece to mix and match.

It was a little rainy today but I still wanted to get out of the house so we walked around a local nursery till I got bad cramps and had to rush home to take painkillers and eat a little chocolate. I feel a lot better now and was even able to have dinner out with the family but I do think I will be turning in early tonight.
I always enjoy looking at all the fancy statuary, someday I would like to have one of these stunning serpents.
I loved the giant angels they have, they reminded me of Weeping Angels. I really hope they aren't because doesn't anything that holds the image of an angel becomes one it's self?
I made my cloak years ago from a fleece blanket. I thought it worked with the woodland creatures into my skirt giving it a Into the Woods feel.

Tomorrow is going to clear up and be pretty so Hubby and I are going to spend the day together outside in the sunshine.

Boxing Day

For boxing day we met Hubby's family at a great little Asian fusion restaurant for lunch then we went to see Into the Woods with them. I really enjoyed the movie, the costumes were amazing and everyone was cast perfectly. I would love to see it on stage someday.
I wore my new Lauren Conrad dress that I got with my birthday gift card to Kohl's from my parents. The dress is super comfy and cute. My only complaint is I wish the bodice had more to it in front, the back fits just fine but the front could have stood to have about 3 more inches and shorter straps. Until I get around to adding a modesty panel I have to pull it up higher in front so as not to show the whole world my bra (even my lowest cut one wasn't enough).  The dress also has a super cute back detail.
I also wore the kitty cat nylons my mother in law got me. They really aren't made for anyone with big and/or long legs but during my 220+ pound days I learned how to make tights that don't fit wearable. I am really glad I am able to wear them, they are so stinkin' cute. I have considered turning them into stockings or leggings but I am afraid of working with such thin nylons.

My in laws do big stockings every year filled with all sorts of goodies. I especially enjoy this because stockings weren't something my family did when I was younger. My stocking was filled with a big box of stawberry pocky, a bottle of coconut syrup, a clasp for my sarong, a candy cane, a punk and a rockabilly rubber ducks, and a bottle of macadamia nut honey. They also gave me a lovely hat that not only to I plan to wear often this spring and summer, it is also perfect for the Sophie cosplay I am planning on making.

These turtles were relaxing in the sun, I'm sure they were happy to have nice weather again.

I hope you all had a lovely Holiday week. Ours was filled with lots of love and family.
Hubby and I celebrate with my family on Christmas Eve and his family on Christmas day so we get equal quality time with both. Hubby and I exchanged gifts on Christmas Eve, I was finally able to show him what I had been working on for him. I made him a full length black faux suede Renaissance cloak. I was very proud of myself, I got all the fabric for it 60% off. There was no way I could have ever afforded 14 yards of fabric at full price, 7 of them being $20 a yard. I promise I'll get pictures of him in it soon.

I was really excited to give my parents their gifts this year, I found the perfect things for both of them. They spoiled us will all sorts of goodies too. I got an adorable pair of BC shoes that are bunnies, some super soft jammies, a ball maze for the kitties, and some Cake Beauty lotions which I am crazy about. I had actually just ordered some of the lotions with the Khol's gift card I got for my birthday but with the weather getting cool finally I am sure I will use up every last bit.

I'll go over what we got from Hubby's parent's next post.
For Christmas I wore the dress I got from Hubby (although I picked it out and he didn't even see it till I opened it). It's from Effie's Heart, a brand a fell in love with when I modeled one earlier this year for Quarter Moon Imports. Their dresses are rather pricey (for me anyway) so I was thrilled when I was able to get this one for $20! The dress is a comfy stretch cotton jersey and has a lovely full skirt and pockets.

Thank goodness the weather cleared up for Christmas. It had rained for almost a week and several of the days we had 7 inch rain fall (some places recorded over 9 inches), there were lots of roads with standing water and localized flooding.

Funny story- one day I checked the mail at a time when the weather had let up slightly and found a package from my dear friend over at Crochet Dynamite full of the most wonderful cold process soap that she makes herself. I was lucky to get it in a lull of the weather since my mailbox leaks a little. I only recently found the package for her that I thought I thought I sent out last Christmas, yikes!, it will get popped in the mail next week for sure.
We took these photos at one of the lovely historic buildings downtown. I have wanted photos by it for a while but since it is a business I would feel weird about taking photos on their porch most days. Sorry we didn't get any full shots of it, we were running a little late to Hubby's family Christmas day.

Ain't we cute?

On the way home we stopped back by downtown to see it lit up. I had been wanting to get pictures all week but we were unable to because the rain.
My friends and I have been laughing on Facebook about hating being adults and using any Christmas money we may get to go to bills and not goodies for ourselves. Sigh, it's hard isn't it? I much rather buy a gorgeous dress and/or a pair of Miss L Fire shoes and pretend our car repair bills would just disappear.
My project this weekend is to put my sewing room back together now that wrapfest is over. I have some firework fabric I bought on clearance after the 4th of July that is screaming to be made into a dress for New Year's and if I'm lucky I can also make the skirt I bought the fabric for a month ago.

Little Cat Feet

The fog comes
on little cat feet.
It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.

-Carl Sandburg

The weather in Tallahassee has been urgh at best lately. It has been raining off and on (pouring today actually) but when it is off at least we have gotten to enjoy some lovely low hanging fog.
Friday night one of my favorite bands was in town, the show was amazing. I love The Living Deads so much! They are planning on coming back to town in February, I'm so excited. If you love rockabilly and/or psychobilly please go to one of their shows, you will be in for a treat.

Since it is the end of the year they were a little low on stock of shirts and CDs but I managed to get the last CD and a shirt that is a size too big (hey, big shirts are comfy and good to curl up in when you're bloated RIGHT?).

Sunday I wanted to get a few pictures of me wearing my new "The Living Deads" band shirt. We went to the amphitheater on campus to get some pics of my outfit since it was misty and raining lightly. It has good light and cover for photography.
Wig- Amphigory, Calypso 4042
Bag- Betsey Johnson (gift)
Skirt- very old
Fishnets- Sock Dreams
Shoes- Hello Shoes (art swap)
After we got some outfit shots we strolled around the Westcott area since the rain had let up some.
I enjoyed getting to try out my new camera, hubby had been the one playing with it lately.
While many people don't like fog, I happen to love it. It adds a dream-like beauty to places.
It is amazing to see the tall buildings in the background disappearing into the fog.
The last few weeks have been jam-packed and this week is going to be too.
Monday Mom and I spent the whole day baking cookies. We made oatmeal chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter honey, chai spiced cookies, spicy mexican chocolate cookiesanise almond cookies, and rice krispie treats.
Spicy Mexican Chocolate Cookies, probably my favorite of the day

Today I hung out with my aunt. We had a girls day- we had lunch out, got coffees, and inspected the family gifts prior to wrapping. Tomorrow is the annual wrap-a-thon then Christmas Eve dinner. It's hard to believe Christmas is Thursday.

In case I don't get to blog before Christmas I wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
